First Annual Ollie the Otter Run!
Lace up and join the fun! It’s the first Annual Ollie the Otter Run to support Oak Meadow School! There are 3 distance options:
- One Mile
- 100-Yard Dash
Ages: All ages welcome, both kids and adults, for all distances. (The 100-Yard Dash is particularly included as a great option for very young runners.) Only Oak Meadow students are eligible for awards, but everyone gets a t-shirt and medal.
Suggested Donation: $35 individual, $100 family (Note this is a fund-raiser for the school, and larger donations are always welcome!)
Race Format: Runners will race on their own on any course of their choosing, anytime during the week leading up to Mother’s Day. Options might include a high school track, a home treadmill or local roads and trails. Runners submit by email their distance, precise finish time, and date of their run.
Training: Participants will be receive a one-on-one virtual coaching session with Oak Meadow Cross-Country Coach Steve Pixley, who will provide guidance on wherever you are in your journey as a runner, depending on your experience and current fitness level. Topics could include how to get started in running (or return to running after a hiatus), how to build up training to the race distances, stretching specifics for runners, gauging distances accurately, finding good trails, tracks and road locations, and advice on shoes and clothing and safety. Coach Pixley is a lifelong distance runner who once completed 5 marathons in 5 days across the mountains of Northern Thailand. He will also be available to answer your questions right up until race week.
Want to have your run officially clocked at Oak Meadow? If your distance is the 100-Yard Dash or the Mile, Coach Pixley can clock you here on campus at a mutually agreed upon time, using the soccer field for the dash, and 4 times around the building for the mile.
Awards: Each participant will receive an Oak Meadow T-shirt, and an official engraved Ollie the Otter race medal. The top three Oak Meadow student finishers in each distance will receive a winner’s podium certificate and a Kimball Farms ice cream gift card. (Note that a Top 3 Award in the 100-Yard Dash is only open to Children’s House and Beginners students, although the distance is open to all ages.)
