Cara came to Oak Meadow in November 2021 to fill a temporary opening, providing learning support for students and teachers. Her contributions were quickly realized and she moved into a permanent position as part of Oak Meadow’s Learning Specialist team. Cara provides support for students and teachers in Upper Elementary and Middle School. Cara is a Masters Level Special Education and Therapeutic Consultant with over two decades of experience working with families, school districts, private schools, and a variety of mental health agencies. Her experience includes providing consultation and advocacy to families struggling to navigate the special education and mental health systems, delivering in-depth reviews of a student to make recommendations for appropriate programs and placements for families and schools. She has also hired, placed, and supervised specialized staffing for families through in-home supports that may not otherwise be available. While building her practice over the years, she has held positions as a School Psychologist, Clinical Director at a Special Education School, and a Behavior Specialist. She was a Learning Specialist at BB&N School and subsequently at Lesley University, both in Cambridge. Cara continues to work closely with private schools who are looking to help their students with executive function skills and students who struggle with challenging behaviors. In her spare time, Cara loves to spend time with her wife and three sons. Whether playing Legos at home, going on a hike together, or vacationing, she finds it amazing to experience life with them and through their lens! She enjoys skiing, playing tennis, hiking, and writing as well as watching movies on a rainy day. She is also a self-professed ice cream connoisseur!
Cara has a B.A. in Child Development and B.S. in Psychology from Colby-Sawyer College, and MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Specialization in Play Therapy from Lesley University.
