Internally, we’ve been having the big important conversations about “what are we doing here?” Like, on a really big scale. What is the purpose of education? What do you believe about children? What do you think the next generation needs in order to feel equipped for success in the future? It’s important to revisit these questions on a semi-regular basis to evaluate how we are showing up in the world. Are we living in alignment with our values?
As parents, you are probably grappling with the same questions. If I were a betting kind of person, I would bet that grappling with these questions is, in part, why you have chosen Oak Meadow in the first place. The values of our community– confidence, independence, responsibility, compassion, life-long learning and excellence– have probably spoken to you on some level.
Next week, we have lots of opportunities to practice living our values. On Monday, we’re grilling up McMeadow egg sandwiches to make your week a little brighter, and Tuesday is a reimagined curriculum night for the Beginners and Children’s House families.
Because we heard you when you said that you were looking for more parent ed events, in this year’s curriculum night, you’ll be grouped with your child’s age-level cohort to hear targeted messages about what your child will be focusing on this year. Later in the year, we’ll have broader discussions around themes and throughlines in the Montessori curriculum, such as how math develops from toddler age through middle school.
We take the responsibility of partnering with you in service of your child’s development seriously, and we can’t wait to see you soon!
Wishing you presence and peace,
Bridget Barrett-Parker
